At TTR GSP TopDog Kennel, we are committed to raising exceptional German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs) in a loving, home environment. Our Guardian Family Program is a special opportunity for select families to partner with us in developing and caring for the next generation of quality GSPs.

What is a Guardian Family?

A guardian family plays a crucial role in our breeding program by providing one of our exceptional dogs with a loving, forever home while partnering with us to maintain their health, training, and development. This unique arrangement allows our dogs to thrive in a family environment while contributing to the future of our program. 

At TTR GSP TopDog, our Guardian Homes are thoughtfully chosen families who meet our standards for providing a loving and stable forever home. These special families care for the "pick of the litter" German Shorthaired Pointers selected for our breeding program. As a Guardian Home, you’ll raise, nurture, and train one of these exceptional dogs, offering them a life filled with love and adventure. Not only will this dog be a cherished member of your family, but they will also play a vital role in shaping and advancing the legacy of this incredible breed.

Boys vs. Girls: Roles in the Breeding Program

  • Girls:
    Female GSPs typically have up to four litters, starting around their second birthday and retiring by age six. During a heat cycle, she’ll attend veterinary appointments and return home until one week before delivery. After whelping, she stays with us to care for her puppies until they’re weaned (around six-seven weeks old).

  • Boys:
    Male GSPs begin breeding around 18-24 months and can remain active until approximately age seven. Their breeding responsibilities are lighter, requiring shorter visits for appointments.

One of the unique experiences is staying connected to the TTR community as you watch the puppies grow and develop. You’re likely to notice resemblances in appearance and personalities that make the journey even more special!

While Guardian Families pay a fraction of the price for their GSP, they are responsible for normal pet care costs, including:

  • Routine veterinary care

  • Premium dog food

  • Preventive treatments (heartworm, flea, and tick)

  • Grooming and pet supplies

  • Training for basic commands and behavior

TTR GSP TopDog Kennel will cover all breeding-related expenses, including:

  • Veterinary care specific to breeding

  • Reproductive appointments

  • Spay/neuter surgery after the breeding career
