Guardian Family
At TTR GSP TopDog Kennel, we are committed to raising exceptional German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs) in a loving, home environment. Our Guardian Family Program is a special opportunity for select families to partner with us in developing and caring for the next generation of quality GSPs.
What is a Guardian Family?
A guardian family plays a crucial role in our breeding program by providing one of our exceptional dogs with a loving, forever home while partnering with us to maintain their health, training, and development. This unique arrangement allows our dogs to thrive in a loving family environment while contributing to the future of our program.
At TTR GSP TopDog, our Guardian Homes are thoughtfully chosen families who meet our standards for providing a loving and stable forever home. These special families care for the "pick of the litter" German Shorthaired Pointers selected for our breeding program. As a Guardian Home, you’ll raise, nurture, and train one of these exceptional dogs, offering them a life filled with love and adventure. Not only will this dog be a cherished member of your family, but they will also play a vital role in shaping and advancing the legacy of this incredible breed.
“Caring for a dog is a privilege that teaches us patience, responsibility, and unconditional love—and in return, they give us their heart.”
Boys vs. Girls: Roles in the Breeding Program
Girls:
Female GSPs typically have on average four litters, starting around their second birthday and retiring by age six-seven. During a heat cycle, she’ll attend veterinary appointments and return home until one week before delivery. After whelping, she stays with us to care for her puppies until they’re weaned (around six-seven weeks old).Boys:
Male GSPs begin breeding around 18-24 months and can remain active until approximately age seven. Their breeding responsibilities are lighter, requiring shorter visits for appointments.
Why Become a Guardian Family?
Our program ensures that the dogs in our breeding program enjoy fulfilling lives in loving family homes, where they receive the care and attention they deserve. For Guardian Families, this is an opportunity to welcome an exceptional GSP into your home while playing a meaningful role in the future of the breed. Being part of the dog’s breeding journey creates cherished memories and offers the unique and rewarding experience of seeing your beloved dog become a parent. As a Guardian Family, you’ll become an integral part of the TTR family, sharing in our passion for preserving and enhancing the GSP lineage while forming lasting connections within our community. One of the unique experiences is staying connected to the TTR community as you watch the puppies grow and develop. You’ll likely notice similarities in both appearance and personality in your dog’s offspring—like their shared love for collecting rocks—making the journey even more special! A true testament to this is Moxy (Maverick’s Dam) and her grandson, “Baby Goose.” Just like his Grand Dam, Goose proudly carries on the quirky tradition of gathering and hoarding rocks, proving that some traits really do run in the family!
Guardian Families are responsible for normal pet care costs, including:

More about our Guardian Family, The Sadlers
Robert and I have been married for almost 21 years and have three wonderful kids. We’ve called Conroe home for the past 15 years. For the longest time, we were a Labrador Retriever family, and when our last Lab passed, we didn’t feel ready to welcome another dog. She was irreplaceable.
A few years later, Robert went on a work trip and sent me a picture of himself riding in a side-by-side next to a German Shorthaired Pointer, saying, “This is the coolest dog ever.” Even then, we weren’t quite ready for a dog, but something about that picture stuck with me. I started looking into GSPs and quickly became fascinated—especially by their striking coloring. At that point, I had never met one in person.
Not long after, I met a couple who had just moved to the area with two GSPs. Hearing their stories and seeing the dogs in action was captivating. I quickly realized that this breed wasn’t just special—it was extraordinary.
A year and a half after Robert sent me that first photo, we finally met Remi. The moment my oldest daughter laid eyes on her, she fell in love. She knew how much I’d been dreaming of having a GSP, and the timing felt perfect. But wow, did we have so much to learn!
From the second we brought Remi home, I knew she was something special. Within just two days, she had mastered sit, stay, come, down, and bed. As the weeks went by, she completely stole our hearts. She wasn’t just incredibly smart—she was loyal, eager to please, and an absolute love bug.
Now, I can confidently say that German Shorthaired Pointers will forever have my heart.
