Intentional pairings. Lifelong purpose. A promise to the breed.

Our Breeding Philosophy

At The Tipsy Rabbit, we specialize in raising AKC German Shorthaired Pointer puppies near Houston, Texas, rooted in intentional breeding and thoughtful development. Based in Conroe, just north of The Woodlands, our goal is to produce GSPs who excel as both driven hunting partners in the field and devoted companions at home.

We believe exceptional dogs begin with purpose. Every pairing is carefully planned to uphold and strengthen the integrity of the breed—balancing proven health, strong structure, sound temperament, natural drive, and family compatibility. All of our breeding dogs undergo extensive OFA health testing, with results publicly available to ensure transparency and confidence in our program.

While many of our puppies go on to become beloved companions for active families, they are deeply rooted in pedigrees rich in natural ability and proven performance—ensuring they carry the instinct, drive, and versatility the German Shorthaired Pointer is known for.

Each litter is raised in our home with hands-on care and a foundation rooted in early enrichment, socialization, and purposeful training experiences, giving every puppy the strongest possible start in life. Because we intentionally keep our program small—typically producing just 3–4 litters each year—we are able to focus on intentional enrichment and early development, careful placement, and building lasting relationships with our puppy families.

We are proud to be recognized among the top-rated GSP kennels in Texas for hunting and performance sports, a reflection of our commitment to health, temperament, and purposeful development.

At the heart of our program is the legacy of our foundation dog, Tex. Known for his heart, fortitude, and unbreakable spirit, Tex continues to shape the temperament, drive, and character we strive to preserve in every Tipsy Rabbit litter.

Built for the field. Raised for the family.

At The Tipsy Rabbit, we are proud to be recognized by the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program, reflecting our commitment to Health, Education, Accountability, Responsibility, and Tradition. As an AKC German Shorthaired Pointer breeder just North of Houston, we prioritize proven health, sound temperament, and purposeful early development—ensuring every puppy has the strongest possible foundation.

Beginning on day three, our puppies participate in Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI)—proven methods that support resilience, confidence, and cognitive development. As they grow, we build on this foundation with structured early socialization and noise conditioning, raising our puppies in-home alongside children, adult dogs, and even cats to foster adaptability and stability.

We also introduce intentional early training, including litterbox training, early potty routines, crate and kennel conditioning, name recognition, and clicker-based obedience, helping each puppy transition smoothly into their new home. This early foundation not only supports confident family companions, but also preserves and develops the natural instinct, trainability, and drive that make German Shorthaired Pointers exceptional hunting and performance dogs.

We carefully breed for the ideal balance of drive and an “off switch,” producing versatile GSPs who excel in the field, on the water, and in canine sports—while settling beautifully into family life. Each puppy receives comprehensive veterinary care, including tail docking, dewclaw removal, a full health exam, parasite screening, and their first heartworm and flea preventative. Puppies go home with prepaid AKC registration, microchip enrollment, complete veterinary records, and a starter kit to support a smooth transition.

At The Tipsy Rabbit, our goal is to produce exceptional companions, performance dogs, and working partners who embody the heart and soul of the German Shorthaired Pointer breed. We proudly support our dogs beyond the whelping box, offering incentives for AKC-recognized titles and NAVHDA testing milestones, including Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Junior Hunter (JH), Dock Diving (NADD), FAST CAT, Rally, Trick Dog, and NAVHDA’s Natural Ability Test.

These achievements reflect the intelligence, drive, and versatility we intentionally cultivate in every Tipsy Rabbit TopDog—whether in the field, in performance sports, or as an exceptional companion.

Meet the Christner Family

Proud owners of The Tipsy Rabbit, we are a small, family-run kennel in Southeast Texas, where our love for family extends to our dogs. Our GSPs are more than just breeding dogs—they are cherished members of our family, and when you bring one of our pups home, you become part of our extended family.

Our commitment doesn’t end at pickup—it’s the beginning of a lifelong connection built on trust, support, and the shared joy of raising these incredible dogs. Each puppy we raise is an extension of our hearts and home, and no matter where life takes them, they will always be loved.

Our children, whether at home or away, play an active role in socializing, training, and caring for our puppies, ensuring they grow into confident, well-rounded companions. We believe exceptional GSPs aren’t just bred—they’re raised with love, structure, and hands-on experiences that prepare them for success in their forever homes.

At The Tipsy Rabbit, finding the perfect match for each puppy is our top priority. Through responsible breeding and thoughtful placement, we aim for every TopPup to go to a home that will love and care for them just as much as we do.

And so our story begins.

The roots of The Tipsy Rabbit run deep...

Grounded in a lifelong love for animals and a steadfast commitment to the German Shorthaired Pointer, what began in South Dakota with a little girl and her mother raising rabbits blossomed into a full-fledged hobby farm filled with goats, chickens, and ducks. A small rabbit-breeding venture sparked a passion that would lead to something even greater.

Our journey with GSPs began with Tex, our first German Shorthaired Pointer, whose intelligence, drive, and unwavering love and loyalty sealed our love for the breed. To carry on his legacy, we welcomed his half-brother Maverick—sired by a 17-time field champion—and shortly later added Charlie, handpicked from one of South Dakota’s top hunting lines.

Tipsy Rabbit was founded with a vision: to preserve and elevate the very best of the GSP—intelligence, health, sound temperament, and athletic versatility. After finding our foundation pair and settling back home in Texas, our program grew into a trusted name for exceptional GSPs bred to thrive in the field, in the water, and at home. While our breeding dogs aren’t actively hunted, their pedigrees speak for themselves — carefully selected for performance, health, and the kind of heart that defines the GSP: loyal, driven, endlessly affectionate, and always eager to be by your side. It’s that deep, intuitive bond that makes them such endearing companions — whether in the field or curled up on the couch.

Today, life at The Tipsy Rabbit revolves around teenagers, German Shorthaired Pointers, and a few sassy rabbits who still believe they’re in charge. From muddy paws to daily chores, it’s a beautiful kind of chaos. I’m a self-proclaimed DIYer and devoted GSP breeder who believes in building early foundations for health, training, and sociability — and in the quiet magic of simple joys, the unconditional love of a dog, strong coffee, and raising a glass to the wild, wonderful life we love.

At it's core, Tipsy Rabbit was built on love—for the breed, for the process, and for the people who welcome our pups into their hearts. We’re proud to do things differently, and we invite you to learn more about what sets our program apart.

My Son and I initially went to pick up Bodie. Upon arrival we were greeted by a litter and parents of absolutely gorgeous GSP’s. I could not resist the temptation of the cutest Female and we left with two GSP’s. Freyja Gin and Bodie are now happily engaged in our family. These are the most well behaved and intelligent pups I have ever had the pleasure of establishing a relationship with. It is evident that Becky truly cares properly for these lovely canines. We were provided thorough instructions, basic commands they are trained to, the established feeding schedule, veterinary requirements as well as what to expect with the raising of these lovely animals. Becky has kept in touch with us to ensure our questions are answered and the pups are acclimating well. We could not be any happier with the selection of Top Dog Kennel and their lovely stock of GSP’s.

Previously, I have owned five dogs that I got from multiple breeders. Becky is by far the best one I have dealt with. She is an excellent communicator and takes pride in the work she does with the pups. We spoke many times over the first seven weeks of Elvis' life and I feel I have made a new friend in her. I highly recommend Becky and The Tipsy Rabbit Kennel.

Tipsy Rabbit is an exceptional breeder, and our experience with them has been nothing short of phenomenal. From the very first timely response to our puppy inquiry all the way through bringing Gunnar home, everything was handled with care, professionalism, and genuine love for the dogs. Watching the relationship between Rollo and Gunnar blossom has been one of the sweetest parts of bringing Gunnar home. From the very beginning, he fit right in with our very busy family and lifestyle. Honestly, Gunnar is the easiest puppy I have ever had. He is gentle and loving toward my children, my husband, and me, yet still enthusiastically rambunctious when playing with Rollo, our 3-year-old GSP. Gunnar is incredibly smart and extremely easy to train — including potty training, which has been an absolute breeze. He blended into our routine so naturally that the puppy stage has been far more enjoyable than we expected. We truly believe the early foundation and training he received made a huge difference. Becky’s communication was unlike anything we have experienced with other breeders. She kept us well informed and helped us feel bonded to Gunnar even before he came home. We credit much of Gunnar’s smooth transition and quick potty training to the excellent start he received from Becky. We could not be happier with our experience and with our wonderful boy, Gunnar.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with this GSP breeder and cannot recommend them highly enough. From the very beginning, communication was exceptional. Every step of the process was clear, organized, and incredibly thoughtful. As first-time buyers working with a breeder, they made everything feel easy, transparent, and completely stress-free. What truly stood out was how connected we felt to our puppy before we even picked her up. Through regular updates, photos, and conversations, we genuinely felt like we already knew her personality. Bringing her home felt seamless and so special because of that connection. As a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, I have seen the full spectrum of breeding programs and the long-term impact they can have on a puppy’s physical and behavioral health. This breeding family clearly prioritizes both. Their dogs are healthy, well-structured, and temperamentally sound. It is obvious this is not just a breeding program — it is a true family effort rooted in genuine love for their dogs. The adult dogs are exceptionally well cared for, and each litter is treated as unique and special. The puppies are raised as cherished family dogs — nurtured, socialized, and thoughtfully prepared — until they transition seamlessly into their new homes. They do an incredible job setting their puppies up for success. Our puppy came with early kennel training, name recognition, and positive social experiences that made the transition smooth. The litter box training that is done was a HUGE help, especially since we traveled a large distance, across the country!, to bring her home. It made car travel easy and provided peace of mind regarding disease transmission while she was still young and not fully vaccinated. That level of foresight and dedication speaks volumes about their program. We absolutely LOVE our puppy, Breeze. She is beautiful, confident, and everything we hoped for and more. We would 10/10 recommend this breeder without hesitation and would choose them again in a heartbeat.

If you want to adopt a beautiful, loving, loyal, intelligent companion, look no further than Tipsy Rabbit Top Dogs. Becky is absolutely incredible. She has a high attention to detail, she is always available to talk through any concerns, questions, and has tremendous experience raising beautiful, smart, and family-ready dogs. We weren’t sure if we were ready after we lost our Dalmatian of only 7 years but she made us feel so comfortable. I highly recommend her. We are forever grateful to have our sweet Sunny puppy in our lives.
