What health guarantees do you offer for your German Shorthaired Pointers?

All Tipsy Rabbit TopPups come with a health guarantee against life-threatening genetic conditions ensuring your puppy's well-being and your peace of mind. Full details are outlined in our Puppy Agreement.

Are your dogs health tested?

Yes. All our breeding dogs undergo health screenings at appropriate ages including OFA evaluations for hips, elbows, eyes, and cardiac, as well as comprehensive genetic testing. We only pair dogs who complement one another genetically and structurally, aiming to reduce the risk of inherited conditions. To learn more about the testing we do and why it matters, check out our blog: Why Health Testing Matters

What is your breeding philosophy?

At Tipsy Rabbit, we believe exceptional dogs start with intentional breeding. Every pairing is carefully planned to uphold and strengthen the integrity of the German Shorthaired Pointer—prioritizing health, structure, temperament, and versatility.

Our goal is to produce confident, well-balanced puppies capable of thriving as beloved family companions, capable performers, and driven working dogs. We raise each litter in our home with hands-on care and a foundation rooted in early training, socialization, and deep respect for the breed’s heritage.

How do you raise your puppies?

Our puppies are raised in our home and exposed to everyday sights, sounds, people, and other animals from the very beginning. We begin Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) at just 3 days old and follow a structured socialization and early training protocol that includes litterbox training, crate introduction, basic obedience and confidence-building activities. Many of our families tell us how smoothly house training goes and how easily their TopPup transitions into ongoing obedience training—thanks to the strong foundation we’ve already laid.

What makes Tipsy Rabbit different from other GSP breeders?

At Tipsy Rabbit, we take a thoughtful, hands-on approach to breeding German Shorthaired Pointers. Our dogs are raised in-home alongside our family—not in kennels—allowing us to nurture their temperament and social skills from day one.

We prioritize health, temperament, and versatility, whether your pup is destined for the field, the dock, or family adventures. All of our breeding dogs are thoroughly health tested through OFA and comprehensive genetic panels. Each pairing is intentionally planned to ensure complementary traits and produce well-balanced puppies.

From an early age, our puppies begin litterbox training, crate exposure, and basic obedience—all of which lay the groundwork for smoother transitions and long-term success in their future homes. Every TopPup is then matched with a carefully vetted family to ensure the right fit and a lifelong bond.

Our breeder support doesn’t end when a puppy leaves our home—we offer ongoing guidance and a lifelong return-to-breeder policy to ensure every dog we’ve brought into this world always has a safe place to land.

What happens if I can't keep my dog?

Life can be unpredictable, and we understand that circumstances may change. If you’re ever unable to continue caring for your Tipsy Rabbit TopPup, we ask that they be returned to us so we can ensure they’re placed in a safe, loving home. This commitment helps us protect the wellbeing of every dog we bring into this world and honors our promise of lifelong support—for both our pups and their people.  Learn more about what this means to us in our blog post: A Lifelong Commitment

Where is the Tipsy Rabbit located?

We’re based in Conroe, Texas—just north of Houston and conveniently located minutes from I-45, making travel from other cities smooth and simple. We’re easily accessible from The Woodlands, College Station, Austin, and Dallas, and we’re proud to work with families across Texas and beyond.

How does the pick order work?

TopPup picks are made at 4 weeks of age in order of reservation deposit. We help guide families through the process by sharing temperament notes and activity level observations. We believe in matchmaking—not just picking the “cutest” pup.

Do you allow visitors before pick-up?

Because of the risk of disease transmission (especially parvo and distemper), we do not allow in-home visits before 4 weeks of age. Visits are by appointment only and we follow a strict safety protocol to protect the health of our litters. We provide regular photo/video updates and virtual meet-and-greets so you can follow along and feel connected as your puppy grows.

Can I choose my puppy’s name?

Yes! Each litter is assigned a theme at birth with matching individual names, but as soon as you’ve made your puppy pick, we’ll begin using your chosen call name to help your pup build early name recognition and familiarity.

By Puppy Pick-Up Day, you’ll need to have your puppy’s AKC registered name ready. This name will include our kennel prefix. If you’re stuck or need inspiration, we’re happy to help with name ideas that tie into the litter’s theme, your call name, or even something meaningful to your family.

Are German Shorthaired Pointers good family dogs?

Yes—with the right structure and outlet, GSPs make incredible family dogs. They’re loyal, affectionate, and form strong bonds with their people—including kids. Their playful, goofy personalities often make them the heart of the household.

That said, they are a high-energy working breed that thrives on activity, training, and mental stimulation. Without clear boundaries and enough exercise, they can become overwhelming—especially for first-time dog owners.

If your family enjoys outdoor adventures, has time to commit to daily training and play, and appreciates a dog that wants to be involved in everything you do, a GSP might be your perfect match. They’re not couch potatoes—but they are world-class snugglers after a good day’s work (or a long game of fetch).

At Tipsy Rabbit, we’re intentional about our pairings.

We selectively breed for balanced temperaments—dogs with plenty of drive to perform in the field, in sport, and active lifestyles, but who also have the ability to settle and enjoy life as calm, affectionate companions. Our goal is to produce well-rounded GSPs that thrive in active family homes without sacrificing the working instinct the breed is known for.

Do German Shorthaired Pointers get along with other dog breeds?

Yes—GSPs are generally very social and enjoy the company of other dogs, especially if they’ve been well-socialized from a young age. They tend to thrive in multi-dog homes where they have a playmate to match their energy and enthusiasm.

That said, their compatibility can depend on the other dog’s breed, age, and energy level. GSPs are high-drive, playful, and sometimes overwhelming to more reserved or lower-energy breeds. Early introductions, clear boundaries, and structured training are key to setting everyone up for success.

At Tipsy Rabbit, we raise our puppies in a home with multiple adult dogs, which helps them learn respectful canine communication from the start. We’re also happy to talk with you about your current pets and help determine if a GSP would be a good fit for your pack.

What is “the off switch"?

The “off switch” refers to a dog’s ability to relax and settle when activity time is over. With high-energy breeds like the German Shorthaired Pointer, this doesn’t always come naturally—but it can absolutely be nurtured.

At Tipsy Rabbit, we intentionally breed for balanced temperaments, pairing dogs that complement one another in both drive and disposition. All of our breeding dogs have developed a strong off switch and are able to rest calmly at home after having their physical and mental needs met.

We also lay the foundation early:

Crate training helps teach boundaries and rest.

Structured routines build predictability and reduce overstimulation.

Mental enrichment complements physical activity to promote calm.

With the right upbringing and continued structure, our TopPups grow into well-rounded companions who know when it’s time to run—and when it’s time to rest
