Giving Our GSPs the Best Future Possible

At the Tipsy Rabbit GSP TopDog Kennel, our responsibility to the dogs we breed doesn’t end when they leave our care—it’s a lifelong promise. Every puppy we bring into the world is a part of our extended family, and no matter the circumstances, we will always welcome one of our dogs back if their home can no longer provide for them.

This isn’t just a policy—it’s a commitment driven by our love for this breed and the deep bond we share with every pup we raise.

Why We Have a “Return to Breeder” Policy

Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes families face unexpected challenges that make keeping a German Shorthaired Pointer difficult. GSPs are highly intelligent, energetic, and driven—traits that make them exceptional companions when placed in the right home. But when families aren’t prepared for their unique needs, it’s in the dog’s best interest to find a better-suited home.

That’s why we have a “return to breeder” clause, ensuring that if a dog needs to be rehomed—whether due to unforeseen challenges, significant life changes like relocation, health issues, or shifting family dynamics—they come back to us first. When we place our puppies in homes, we do so with the expectation that they will live out the course of their natural life with their family. However, we recognize that life can take unexpected turns, and our priority is always the well-being of the dog. This isn’t about failure—it’s about finding the best possible fit and ensuring every dog has the loving, stable home they deserve.

We are incredibly grateful for the families who put their pups’ well-being first, giving us the opportunity to find them their perfect second-chance home.

The Truth About Rehomed GSPs

One of the biggest misconceptions about returned dogs is that they must have behavioral issues—but this is rarely the case. More often, with GSPs, they simply landed in homes that couldn’t meet their exercise, training, or mental stimulation needs.

Families experienced with the breed understand this, but we want to encourage more people to see the beauty in becoming a “Second Family”. Many times, these rehomed GSPs form an even deeper bond with their new owners, as they finally get the structure, activity, and engagement they crave.

Could You Be a Second Family?

If you’ve ever considered welcoming a second-chance GSP into your home, know that you’re not just giving them a new start—you’re becoming a vital part of their journey. These dogs still have so much love to give, and with the right match, they thrive in their second homes.

Don’t just take our word for it—hear from a "Second Family" who found their perfect fit! Read Mark and Brooke W.’s heartfelt testimonial below.

"Bringing River into our home has been an absolutely amazing experience. From day one, she has been smart, loving, eager to learn, and full of personality—truly the best puppy we could have asked for.

We knew going in that German Shorthaired Pointers are an active, intelligent breed, and we made sure River had plenty of space to run, explore, and burn off her energy. She has thrived on our land, and it’s been a joy watching her develop into such a well-balanced and happy pup.

While I can’t speak for other families, I truly believe that GSPs need the right environment, structure, and engagement to flourish. They are not just pets; they are companions with boundless energy and sharp minds that need stimulation and adventure. For us, River has fit in perfectly, and we couldn’t be happier.

I want to express my deep gratitude to Becky at The Tipsy Rabbit for her dedication, love, and care in raising these incredible dogs. Her support and guidance have been invaluable, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a well-bred, well-raised GSP. If you’re considering becoming a second family, I can confidently say it could be the best decision you ever make—a perfect fit, just like River was for us!"
