Traveling with your New Puppy

TTR's Tips & Pointers Blog

A Smooth Journey Home

1. Prioritizing Puppy’s Comfort
Before heading to their new homes, our puppies experience short car outings to begin adjusting to travel. If you have a longer drive ahead, we can help by gradually acclimating your puppy to slightly longer car rides before their go-home date.

2. Safety First: Traveling by Car
For car travel, we recommend using a crate or a puppy seatbelt to keep your puppy secure. If crating, ensure it is well-ventilated and lined with a cozy blanket. Some families prefer to hold their puppy with a soft blanket for comfort—we provide a special littermate-scented blanket to ease their transition.

Pro Tip:
Plan frequent breaks for potty stops and stretching.
Keep water readily available to prevent dehydration.
Ensure your puppy’s travel area is calm and temperature-controlled.

3. Flying with Your Puppy
No Cargo Transport: We do not ship puppies in cargo. All puppies travel in-cabin with a trusted chaperone.

If you’re flying home with your puppy, check airline policies for in-cabin pet travel. We will help acclimate your puppy to their travel crate before their trip and ensure the crate meets airline requirements. Whenever possible, book a direct flight to minimize stress from layovers and transfers.

4. Delivery & Meet-Up Options
We understand that travel logistics can be challenging, so we offer multiple options to ensure a safe and seamless puppy handoff.

Airport Meet-Up: We can meet you at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) for easy handoff.
In-Person Pick-Up: Visit us in Conroe, TX, to meet the parents, littermates, and pick up your new companion.
Mutual Meet-Up: Work with us to select a convenient location where we can meet and deliver your puppy.
White-Glove Delivery: A trusted transport service can personally deliver your puppy to you, providing GPS tracking and travel updates to both the breeder and the new owner.

 5. Settling In at Home
Once you arrive home, create a quiet, secure space where your puppy can rest and adjust to their new environment. Plan to schedule a veterinary appointment within three days to check their health and begin their vaccination schedule.

By preparing in advance and choosing the right travel option, you’ll set your puppy up for a smooth, stress-free transition into their new home. Safe travels, and welcome to the TTR family! 🐾
